Avanos Medical recalled Cortrak* 2 EAS following reports of injuries and deaths due to tube misplacements.
The US Food and Drug Administration has classified Avanos Medical's Cortrak*2 enteral Access System (EAS), as a Class 1 recall.

Avanos Medical has recalled Cortrak*2 EAS following reports of deaths or injuries due to misplacements of the nasogastric tube.

However, incorrectly placed nasogastric/nasoenteric pipes could cause harm to vocal cords or the trachea. This can lead to serious injuries or even death.
The company has now recalled 629 devices from the US that were distributed between April 1, 2016 and 1 January 2022.
The company also noted in a recall notice that there have been 60 injuries and 23 patients that died in 2015 as a result of the incorrect placement of nasogastric feed tubes that were connected to the Cortrak* 2 EAS.
Avanos Medical is updating the labels on the device following the recall. This will include updated instructions regarding the use and intended uses of Cortrak*2 EAS.
