Avanos Medical has recalled the Cortrak*2 Ental Access System because of the risk of injuries and deaths resulting from misplacement of nasoenteric and nasogastric tube. https://pastelink.net/btpcw0b6 The recall currently comprises 629 devices distributed throughout the United States.
Avanos marketing its Cortrak*2 Endural Access System is known for the on-screen images of stomachs of patients and small bowels to assist in the placement medical feeding tubes. Incorrectly inserting a tube can cause harm to vocal cords, lungs and the trachea. According to Avanos Medical's recall notice, there have been 60 incidents of injury and 23 deaths of patients in the last year due to improper placement of feeding tubes for nasogastric patients making use of the CORTRAK* 2 Enteral Access System. Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Pneumothorax, pulmonary failure (collapsed lung tissue), perforation, (a hole in the esophagus or the bowel wall) pneumonia, excess fluid that is accumulating between the lungs (the chest cavity and lungs) have all been among the traumas.
Avanos Medical has described a plan to offer users current labeling to verify the proper placement of the nasogastric and nasoenteric tube prior to use.
