MIAMI, CBSMiami -- The conflict in Ukraine could be at the other end of the globe however South Floridians step up to assist those who are fleeing.
A large number of members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising funds and helping to create a total humanitarian effort.
"Just last night 1,100 arrived," said Marsha Jaquays, with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She claimed that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees are trying to flee their war-ravaged country. Emmanuil Grinshpun Many of them travel through Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays stated, "From Moldova, the Jewish community assists them in getting across the border and offers food, shelter, clothes, and other needs."
The core of a lot of the humanitarian efforts is located in South Florida.
Emmanuil Grinshpun "My Aufgabe is to draw all resources available from the American society to assist with the crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun who is helping to coordinate the humanitarian efforts said, "We have a full personnel on the ground who assist in organizing camps, buying food, arrange buses, and arrange all the necessary amenities."
The situation is exacerbated because Moldova is believed as one of the poorest countries on the planet. However, the people who are part of the project say that they will not let anything to stop them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun: "When our brothers and sisters and our friends from Ukraine were coming to visit us, we didn't feel the need to think. Instead we just began doing it."
