The versatility of contact lenses is never greater. Be aware of the pros and cons of common types of contact lenses -- as well as the fundamental rules to preventing eye infections.
Soft contact lenses
These are among the most commonly prescribed contact lenses. They can be used to help with a wide range of visual issues. For example:
Nearsightedness (myopia)
Hyperopia (farsightedness)
Blurred vision (astigmatism).
Presbyopia can be described as a loss of vision due to age in the close-up view
Soft contact lenses provide comfort and are more comfortable to use over rigid gas permeable types. There are many types of soft lenses including:
Wear-to-work lenses for everyday use. One-day lenses are intended to be worn for a single day. You remove and dispose of them after a night. There are also disposable lenses which are able to be used for two weeks, in addition to monthly disposable lenses. In general, you take the lenses at night to clean and disinfect them.
Overnight (extended) wear lenses. Contact lenses made of soft material are able to wear continuously all day long for as long as 30 days, even if you're asleep. This type of lens wearing could cause complications including the accumulation of dirt beneath the lenses, eye irritations or worse, serious infections.
Rigid gas permeable contact lenses
For people who have problems with vision, rigid gas-permeable lenses offer crisp and clear vision. These contact lenses might help if you've had a go with soft lenses and aren't satisfied by the result or you have "dry eyes."
Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are more durable over soft lenses. These lenses also are more permeable and allow for increased oxygen levels to reach the cornea. Contact lenses must be taken out for disinfection and cleaning at night. Certain contact lenses may remain in use for longer than a week while others may be used up to 30 days.
You might need to adjust to rigid gas-permeable contacts lenses over a period of duration. If your prescription doesn't change, and your lenses remain in good condition they can be worn whatever time you like.
Specialized contact lenses
Brown Contact Lenses
Perhaps you're looking for specialized contact lenses for your specific vision needs are.
Hybrid contact lenses. Hybrid lenses comprise of a gas-permeable central as well as a soft outer. They are able to fix farsightedness (nearsightedness) and astigmatism and other age-related changes in close sight. They also allow for the correction of irregular corneal curvature (keratoconus) Additionally, they may be more comfortable over traditional gas permeable glasses.
Multifocal contact lens. These lenses are available in many materials. They are able to treat farsightedness, nearsightedness, and presbyopia all at once.
Tinted lenses for contact lenses Tinting contact lens for therapeutic or cosmetic purposes is possible. Tinting can be used to make contact lenses more color-sensitive or to help compensate for colourblindness.
Contact lenses to treat Scleral. These gas-permeable and rigid lenses are often larger than other types and reach the outer white layer of the eyeball (sclera). They are able to help improve the vision of those with an uneven or discolored cornea.
Orthokeratology. This gas-permeable, special lens is worn in sleep to modify the curve of your cornea briefly. They provide clearer vision even when you're awake.
Contact lens coatings. The surface of the lens gets more slippery due to this treatment and makes it less likely to be infected by bacteria. The coating is put on rigid or soft gas permeable contact lenses.
Finding the perfect shape
To conduct a complete eye exam and fitting, you should consult with your doctor of optometry prior to purchase contact lenses. A follow-up examination may be necessary following one, two three, six or six months.
Avoiding complications
Contact lenses could cause irritation and can cause severe infections. To prevent problems:
Make sure you maintain a good hygiene. Make sure you wash your hands well with soap and water before coming into any contact. Cleanse your hands and dry with a clean , dry towel.
Avoid contact with saliva and the water. Dispose of your contacts before you go swimming or in a hot spa. Don't put your lenses in the mouth so that they get wet.
Care for your the solutions for your contact lenses. Utilize only commercially prepared and sterile solutions specifically designed for the kind of lenses you wear. Discard the solution in the case for your contact lenses each time you disinfect and store the lenses. Use gentle pressure and gently rinse your lenses as directed by your physician. Do not use contact solutions that are past the expiration date.
Gray Contact Lenses
Replace contact lenses and cases in the manner recommended by your doctor. To replace your contact lenses, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Cleanse your case and rinse it with sterile solution for your contact lenses after you've used the solution. Use only tap water. To flush the solution out, you can flip your case upside down while you are air drying. Replace your case once every three months.
Do not use contact lenses that are sold over the counter. They can lead to eyes injuries and infection. If you're interested in fashionable contact lenses, speak with your eye physician.
Contact lens wearers could experience dry eyes even with good care and use. If your eyes feel itchy or red, you should take out your lenses. Use drops to lubricate your eyes.
If you notice your vision becoming blurry or you are experiencing eye pain or extreme sensitivity to light, consult your eye doctor for prompt medical attention.
