What is Roundup Ready?
First, what is Roundup Ready? Roundup Ready is a trademark name for a patented line of genetically modified crop seeds that are immune to the herbicide glyphosate, Roundup. These crops are called 'Roundup Ready' crops.

Roundup was created by whom?
John Franz (Monsanto Chemist) first recognized Glyphosate as a herbicide in Roundup. In 1970, the majority of herbicides in the ag field were pre-emergent. That is, they were sprayed before crop and weeds were established. The post-emergent effect of glyphosate in reducing many broadleaf and grass weeds was distinct, and when combined with its exceptional environmental properties (soil inactivation rapid degradation, no carryover) and toxicological characteristics (extremely low toxicity to beneficial organisms and mammals) was an outstanding product.

ラウンドアップ When was the time that Roundup first created?
Roundup(r) was introduced on the market in 1974, as a broad-spectrum herbicide. It quickly became one of the top agricultural chemicals on the market. ラウンドアップ It was initially employed on railway tracks, in ditches as well as on fields during growing seasons. This gave farmers the capability to control grasses and broadleafweeds within the soil. In this way they could lessen the necessity to till, preserve soil structure, and lessen soil erosion.

The Roundup Ready GMOs were next.
Inspiring by the amazing breakthroughs in Recombinant DNA technology in the 1970s, Monsanto scientists recognized the many benefits to farmers if Roundup(r) could be directly applied to growing crops to control weeds within their fields. The challenge was first tackled by a small team of scientists, led by Dr. Ernie Jaworski (Rob Horsch and Steve Rogers), In the early 1980s this team had developed the first systems to insert genes in plants. Our focus shifted to the development of virus-resistant crops, which are resistant to insects and also Roundup.

It was found that Roundup blocked the production of aromatic amino acids in plants. ラウンドアップ This is the reason for Roundup's high-level mammalian safety. In addition, glyphosate was quickly degraded in soils by microorganisms. Our scientists discovered both plant and microbe genes that conferred resistance to herbicides. The USDA approved the first field testing of Roundup Ready plants in 1987. This was a Roundup resistant variety of genetically modified tomato plants that were tolerant to Roundup. A few years later, Roundup Ready trait, which was the bacterial genetic trait, was discovered and introduced to other crops.

ラウンドアップ Let's look at soybeans for an example by answering the questions, what are Roundup Ready soybeans? and what is the process by which Roundup Ready soybeans are produced? https://chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/search/?rkf=1&ei=UTF-8&p=%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A6%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%82%A2%E3%83%83%E3%83%97&fr=sc_dr&__ysp=44Op44Km44Oz44OJ44Ki44OD44OX Roundup Ready Soybeans are genetically engineered soybeans that have had their DNA altered so that they can withstand the herbicide glyphosate that is the main component in the herbicide, Roundup. Because every soybean seed was infected with the Roundup Ready gene prior planting this variety of soybeans is resistant to glyphosate. Farmers can utilize Roundup Ready gene in their fields to spray without harming their crops.

It is clear the fact that Roundup Ready crops were introduced in 1996 and transformed the agricultural sciences and agriculture. Roundup resistance soon became a popular plant in the U.S. Over 90% of U.S. soybeans as well as cotton, corn and canola fields now utilize this biotech trait. Roundup Ready crops streamlined and improved weed management systems. This has led to higher crop yields. It also reduced the need to tilde, cut down on equipment costs and made harvesting more efficient due to fewer herbicides. The increased use of conservation-tillage has had a major impact on the environment. Farmers can cut down on their carbon footprint and energy use by reducing plowing. But this also helps preserve soil structure and reduces erosion. This was equivalent in 2013 to removing 28.3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (or 12.4 million cars) off the roads.
