What is Roundup Ready?
First, what exactly is Roundup Ready? And what are the Roundup Ready crops? Roundup Ready is a trademark that refers to a type of genetically engineered seeds that are resistant against Roundup. ラウンドアップ These crops are called 'Roundup Ready' crops.

Roundup was created by whom?
Glyphosate is the active agent in Roundup was first identified to be an herbicide in 1970 by Monsanto chemical scientist, John Franz. ラウンドアップ At the time, in the ag industry, most herbicides were pre-emergent. This means they were applied before the crop and weeds emerged. The post-emergent effect of glyphosate in reducing a large number of broadleaf and grass weeds was distinct, and when combined with its remarkable environmental properties (soil inactivation, rapid degradation, no carryover, etc.) and toxicological properties (extremely low toxicity to beneficial organisms and mammals) and made it an innovative product.

In what year was Roundup first launched?
Roundup(r), an herbicide with broad spectrum, was first released on the market in 1974. ラウンドアップ It quickly grew to be a top-selling agricultural chemical. Roundup(r) was initially applied on railroad tracks, in ditches and on fields in between the growing seasons. It allowed farmers to keep a check on grass and broadleaf weeds growing out of the soil. This reduced the need for tillageand preserved soil structure, and reduced soil erosion.

The Roundup Ready GMOs followed.
Monsanto scientists were inspired by remarkable advancements in recombinant DNA technology in the 1970s. They recognized the many benefits for farmers who benefited if Roundup (r) could directly be applied on their crops to eliminate weeds. Ernie Jaworski, Rob Horsch, Steve Rogers, and I began to work on this problem. The team created the first method to introduce genetic to the plants in the early 1980s. We then began to work on creating virus resistant crop varieties, insect-resistant, and Roundup-tolerant.

It was found that Roundup glyphosate impeded plant's ability to produce aromatic amino acids. Roundup's extremely high rating in mammalian safety was because of this. Glyphosate also was quickly metabolized in the soil by microorganisms. Our researchers had discovered the genes of plants and microbial organisms to increase the tolerance to herbicides. Roundup Ready plants was cleared for field trials by the USDA in 1987. It was a Roundup-resistant variety of genetically modified tomatoes that proved tolerant to Roundup. In the following decades it was discovered that the Roundup Ready gene that would become the most important characteristic of the Roundup Ready crop was discovered. It was later isolated and introduced into the crops.

Let's take soybeans as an illustration. We'll answer the questions: What are Roundup-ready soybeans? How are Roundup ready soybeans produced. Roundup Ready Soybeans are genetically engineered soybeans with their DNA altered to allow them to withstand the herbicide glyphosate, which is the main ingredient in the herbicide Roundup. This soybean is tolerant to Roundup since each seed has the gene that is afflicted with Roundup before it's planted. This means that farmers can spray their fields with herbicide and not kill their crop.

Roundup Ready crops, which were first introduced in 1996 have revolutionized agriculture science and farming. Roundup resistance was quickly acknowledged by farmers and its adoption was rapid. Today, over 90% of U.S. soybeans are grown using a biotech gene for herbicide tolerance. Roundup Ready crops have not only reduced and improved weed control methods, but also cut down on the cost of tillage and equipment. ラウンドアップ amazon This allowed for more efficient harvests, and less weeds. The increased use of conservation-tillage has had a huge impact on the environment. ラウンドアップ Farmers can cut down on their energy consumption and GHGs by decreasing plowing. However, this keeps soil structure intact and helps reduce erosion. This is equivalent to taking 28.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere in 2013, or 12.4 million vehicles off the roads for a whole year (Source: , PG Economics). ラウンドアップ
