Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues as well as the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun spoke about the subject of the restoration of synagogues during their interview. It was not possible to stay on one issue during the discussion. There were many topics discussed in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was a pleasure to have you meet. I don't think we have seen each other in more than five years. Where are you currently living?

The past nine months are split into Miami and Jurmala. While the area was previously more diverse, the impacts of the pandemic have had a huge impact on the way people live. It is hard to say if this is in the best way.

You have always had many different business lines. What's the next step?

Diversification isn't going away. If we concentrate on the most important areas, then real estate development, IT, and food production are the three main areas.

ALIMCOM has a strong presence in the food and real estate industries. However, IT is still a mystery to me. There are a million applications of IT technology. What is the area you are most intrigued by?

Our IT-holdings are occupied first and foremost with reforms to tax systems across a variety of countries. We have developed and continue to design several products that can be used to transfer business processes that relate to taxation online. This is known as B2G (Business to Government).

Where are the places where the holding is operating? Are there any ex- USSR countries?

They are there. However, we have more contracts in Western Europe and Latin America. We currently operate in 14 countries.

What's the core of your product?

Our solution lets economic operators submit online tax reports to tax authorities. The fiscal data administrator also sees each transaction. At the same time the tax accounting process and tax calculation is organized in parallel. In the future it is possible to state that smaller and mid-sized companies will not need accounting.

It's an interesting subject. The future is right around the corner. Are you considering working in Moldova? Moldova is your home country...

We are ready to introduce the product in Moldova. The Moldovan economy will only gain from this process of automation. In any event, it is an irreversible process. When we are able to establish a clear understanding from the authorities about who will make the decisions that will affect the negotiations, we can resume.

Эммануил Гриншпун You said that your year has been spent hopping between Jurmala to Miami. Are you referring to the head office of an IT holding located in the Baltics

No, there are five hubs around the world and the headquarters is located in Barcelona.

Why then the Baltics! Are you also a part of the Baltics?

No. There is no. Jurmala came into our lives in an unexpected and prosaic way. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. The group began making the trip a regular part of their summer schedule after several events. But the climate in Miami isn't the most pleasant in summer. We rented the property for a number of years, and have now bought the property.

Now I know the reason my donation was made to rebuild one of the synagogues located in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We are almost of the same age. We were born in the USSR. No need to talk about religion at the time. All of us were Komsomol members at the time and pioneers. What was the first time you turned to religion?

My family and I came into America around the middle of the 80s. I was introduced to the rituals and customs in the United States. Even though I'm not a part of the Orthodox faith I am aware of an internal need support the religious life regardless of the form, of the Jewish community I am a part of or in Moldova, my homeland that I share close bonds.

Although I'm not a religious person I am a huge fan of history. Recently, I watched a program that focused on events in 1492, which changed the course of European history. 1492 is for me the year Columbus discovered America. But, I saw clearly in the program that it was mentioned in that the discovery of America in 1492 of Medieval Europe was not as impressive as the Spanish monarchs' expulsion of Jews of Spain. The Jews were granted acceptance by the Ottoman Empire when the mass exodus began of Jews to the Ottoman Empire. I am interested in finding out more about the culture and history of the Jews. Would you recommend a book to me?

Эммануил Гриншпун There are many books out there, but I've personally read all of them and recommend Max Diamond's two-volume Jewish history. He is also from Finland.

Speaking of "personal" history .... Are you aware of your family tree? Unfortunately, I only know my grandmother and 1910. From the paternal perspective, one step higher, but nothing more.

Documentary evidence and monuments show that the family of Floresti was prosperous in the year 1830. They owned numerous shops, a furniture manufacturing factory as well as land plots. Ungheni was the home of my grandparents. I'm talking about dates in the region of the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun is a surname which comes from German roots. We are pure and straight Ashkenazis from Eastern Europe.

Эммануил Гриншпун Here's the question about the maintenance and restoration of synagogues. https://silvermanagui.livejournal.com/profile I heard that you have funded the restoration of three synagogues. One is in Chisinau; one is in Jurmala; and the third is?

The third largest is located in Netanya, Israel. It is a massive community center, where a thousand people a day pray. It is an important location in the life of religion of Israel. The second Synagogue in Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before I took the decision to build a synagogue , I'd spoken with several local Jews. I then made the decision to fund its construction and invite Rabbis to visit it. It was an extremely successful endeavor which brought together the Jews from Jurmala. We actually re-created the Jewish Community, and it's functioning successfully. Three Torahs now grace the synagogue. One of which I donated to the synagogue.

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis (left) and Alexander Weinstein (right) have joined me here. The three synagogues I mentioned were not the only ones in which I participated in restoration and construction. I felt it was my responsibility to make every contribution possible to the support for synagogues in the countries I've resided for a long time. The synagogue I support, Monaco, Miami, is a large community facility for Russian-speaking Jews. Its estimated amount is 12 million USD. I am continuing to support Chisinau. It is expected to become the biggest synagogue within the city, and the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson.

Yes. It can be very difficult to find the right Rabbi to serve the needs of the community. Because of the interconnectedness between his interests, he needs to be non-conflict-free and diplomatic capable of easily integrating into the community. It's a good fact that both the Jurmala and Chisinau rabbis could to integrate seamlessly into the community.

You were elected vice-president for the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in 2019. What does this position mean to you, and what do international Jewish organizations influence the world?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is an influential political organisation in post-Soviet areas, but it's more than the borders of. It has offices in Australia, Japan Hong Kong, New Zealand, New Zealand, and Eastern Europe. In 2010, I served as Vice President and then given the post as First Vice President. As of now, I'm the First Vice President for the region in which I've strong political and business connections. These are Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). As for trends across the world, the barometer for attitudes toward Jews remains at the current level or has swung lower in a very sad way. "Down" also refers to countries like France, Germany or France that are developed. These countries are not safe for Jews. These are serious and alarming methods for all.

Эммануил Гриншпун Do you think the pandemic is affecting these processes in some way?

It is not what I believe. In fact, in the circumstances of the pandemic, I'd like to emphasize the things that a nation and society can accomplish when they're prepared for any situation and work together.

What are you referring to?

Exactly. Israel is the first nation that offers 100% vaccination of its adult population. I think this is an important example and lesson that other countries should take note of.
