Microsoft is aware that Minecraft can get kids into programming, and is betting on that strategy again this year. It's teamed up with Code.org to introduce the Minecraft Hour of Code Designer tutorial, which will teach young people (6 years old or older) how to create a simple game. The Designer lets you easily demonstrate basic concepts of code, such as object-oriented programming or loops. It also lets your imagination run free in the world of Minecraft. You can make chickens that drop gold, and other rules that are as rational or absurd as you'd like.
The tutorial is available right now in 10 languages and will be available in 50 languages by the time Computer Science Education Week kicks off on December 5th. Of course, this tutorial will not be as simple as learning a programming language.
