Minecraft's player count continues to rise on its upward trend

How many Minecraft players do you have in your life? Minecraft may be the most played game in the world right now according to the latest numbers of players showing that it's bigger than most countries.



It's not a surprise that Minecraft has reached a number of milestones on it's 11th anniversary this year, including more than 200 million copies of Minecraft sold as of May 2020, a rise of 24 million copies from the previous year. Needless to say it's been a big year so far for Minecraft as it has seen the release of Minecraft Earth and the launch of Mojang's own action-RPG, Minecraft Dungeons.



The Minecraft open-world Minecraft game we all love is not slowing down. There's been an increase in players every year, frequent updates like the Minecraft Nether update and new blocks, biomes and mobs. Not that players have run out of ideas. With all the impressive player creations popping up including Minecraft Hogwarts and Minecraft house designs, just how many players are playing Minecraft?

Helen Chiang, Mojang's studio director, writes in a blog post that "126 million people" are now playing Minecraft each month. This is in addition to the 112 million monthly active users as of September 2019 that was revealed in an interview with Helen Chiang, Business Insider, and Helen Chiang. "What we've observed is that it's a game players keep coming back to," says Chiang. "It might not always be in the forefront, because there are many excellent games that continue to appear however it's one they love to return to."



Between traditional sales for paid games worldwide and registered accounts for the free-to-play version in China Minecraft has surpassed 480 million players all told in 2019.The major portion of that is due to the Chinese version, which was released in 2017 and has already brought in more than 300 million players, as analyst Daniel Ahmad notes on Twitter. The paid version has sold 180 million copies worldwide. This makes Minecraft the third-biggest country in the world after China and India.
