VentureBeat's GamesBeat 2015 conference was held in October. It was a great event which I was privileged to attend. VentureBeat is regarded as one of the best blogs on the internet according to The New York Times. VentureBeat is a top source of technology innovation news, events, research and perspective and their GamesBeat conference, which is now in its seventh year takes those attributes and focuses on the latest tech trends in the gaming industry.
We were thrilled when Authy was invited by GamesBeat 2015 to take part in the event. It's not often that business and pleasure blend so seamlessly. At Authy, we help online companies secure their data and protect their customers by making it simple to integrate two-factor authentication into their offering. But we're also gamers at heart, and so whenever a gaming platform amps up their level of security we're more likely to initiate gameplay.
Gamers Losing Trust?
Hackers are popular with game developers and gamers, because of the growing popularity of virtual economies on gaming websites. On the black market gaming profiles are available for thousands of dollars. Cybercriminals are most interested in games that have multiple players and the $11billion annual revenue they generate. Multi-player games' in-game currencies such as World of Warcraft Gold, are easily stolen, exchanged, or cashed in for real cash, usually in other countries and without the developers' knowledge. This kind of breach can be difficult to overcome even if a corporation is able to recover stolen assets and/or prosecute the culprits. The player loses confidence in the game. Even if a fresh or more secure title is released, it's not easy to restore confidence.
But it isn't necessary to be that way
As users become frustrated with the constant data breaches, they demand more responsible stewardship of their data from companies. We all know passwords aren't enough to protect us however, we also are aware that a second authentication method can be used to verify the identity of an individual. DEIN FREUND This can protect your service and your customers from data loss, fraud, or malicious attacks. Two-factor authentication is a perfect fit especially in multi-user online games where players accumulate and trade value.
Security with just 10 lines Of Code
It's not that difficult to integrate two-factor authentication. Well, it is if you try to make it yourself. That's the essence of my presentation at GamesBeat 2015. Integrating Authy two-factor authentication is easy, reliable and powerful. Two-factor authentication can be implemented almost immediately with just 10 lines of code
Verify players at registration Safely allow access during log-in Secure high-value transactions and game progressions In general, any activity in the game you want to safeguard
Yes. Authy for Minecraft.
To illustrate the point, I set up two-factor authentication for Minecraft to show you how to use:
Text or SMS to voice when logging in using Authy OneCode – One Time Passcode generation for player validation with AuthySoftToken. Push notification using Authy One Touch allows users to swipe their smartphone screen to make purchases in game as well as any other actions that require additional security.
Hackers are no longer just after end-user data. Hackers are now targeting entire player communities and some are even trying at destroying entire systems. Two-factor authentication will make gaming developers more secure. Developer account information will also be more secure. Brands will build trust and confidence in its player community.
As developers know, integrations between apps can be a difficult development task. With Authy we've put in a lot of effort to ensure that it's simple to use for any developer. The Authy REST API handles all the details including key management as well as secure data structuring. You also get 2 end-points, as well as pre-built libraries that provide security to your login flow using the language you choose: PHP, Ruby Python, Java, NodeJS, and many more.
If you're a developer:
