In this lesson, you will analyze events related to court politics and spectacle displayed within the Renaissance and the Baroque periods of Western European dance. You will critique a contemporary performance on video that reflects your current surroundings and compare this to the politics of spectacle within the Renaissance and the Baroque era. You will post your performance critique in the Discussion Board.

--analyze assigned images and textual materials to inform their written analysis regarding the politics of spectacle, meaning the visual display of power in performance, within the context of the Renaissance and Baroque periods of Western European dance.
--critique a dance performance from popular culture comparing it to the key principles and concepts in court politics and spectacle from the Renaissance and Baroque era.
--assess the performance sharing an original point of view in relation to the subject with a logical development of these ideas related to the politics of spectacle in dance performance.
--critically explore the power relations associated with the images in relation to inequities in performance like culture, social class, economics, gender, age, or perhaps physicality.
--analyze the performance with a minimum of five paragraphs written in formal standard English, citing two scholarly sources from the assigned readings in the Modern Language Association format.
