Optical water vapor sensors work by taking advantage of the Beer-Lambert law, which relates the attenuation of light to the properties, in this case, the moisture level, of the materials the light is traveling through, in this case, air. These instruments feature light emitters and detectors arranged so that there is a fixed quantity of air between them.
