Minecraft sales have officially reached 200 million and 126 million players are playing the game monthly. Microsoft has released the latest sales figures, just as Mojang Studios celebrates eleven years since the first Minecraft beta version was released.
Microsoft also observed an increase of Minecraft use during this epidemic. Minecraft saw an increase of 25% in new users last month and 40 percent growth in multiplayer sessions.
Minecraft sales had previously exceeded 100 million in 2016 and the game hasn't shown any sign of slowing down. A surge in interest from YouTubers and nostalgia-driven playing has seen Minecraft remain the top game in YouTube statistics for viewership last year.

Microsoft purchased Minecraft maker Mojang six years ago for $2.5 Billion. At the time, the company had sold more than 50 million copies across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It was a smart acquisition by Microsoft and the phenomenal growth in sales and growth since has kept players coming back to the game for years.
Minecraft began as a project for a bedroom which was first released as a Java applet on a website forum. The game was soon embraced by thousands of players who fell in love with the idea that allowed players to create and build structures out of blocks. It has spawned a giant community that creates replica objects and YouTube tutorials on how to play Minecraft which are regularly shared with millions of players.
