There were similar issues in the past with wordpress.org, where the company was suing webmasters for using the word "wordpress" in their domain names. After settlements in court were reached, it was determined that the word "wp" is a suitable alternative, would conform to copyright laws.
In the same way, it's similar to runescape. If Jagex were to really sue a few gold-selling and bot companies in court, for reason of having the "rs" acronym in their website's name, they will not prevail. In the end nobody owns the alphabet!
But I was thinking what is Jagex's primary strategy to fight botting and trading in the real world? I hope they have an actual plan... because this won’t get them very far.
Gold4RS reports that it sells between 6 and 8 trillion dollars of gold in runescape each year. This amounts to about 6 million US dollars with current pricing.
