Amazon could be in direct competition with Apple and Google in this move. Apple is expected to announce its new iPhone in September.

Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com CEO and Amazon.com's Founder and CEO) said that Fire TV is a tiny box that has huge specs, tons of content and a price that is a steal.

The service uses Amazon's existing Prime TV and film on demand service, in addition to Hulu Plus.

The $99 price tag is targeted at Roku and Amazon's products, and Google's Chromecast.

According to the firm it is planning to expand its services in the near future.

Amazon already provides movies and TV shows on-demand free to customers who are members of Amazon's premium shipping service Prime, in both the UK and the US.
