Santorum has been a real surprise in recent weeks. He started off as Mr. Irrelevant and has become, well, Mr. Less Irrelevant. He capitalized on turnovers by Perry and Bachmann, and has reestablished himself after a grueling loss in the Senate in 2006. He does have a future in the GOP, but it'd take a real "Hail Mary" for him to seize the nomination.

Folks, I think this time (the November, 2008 election) the stakes are high enough that we need to rise above our "egocentric" and "ethnocentric" considerations. We need to look at what is best for the nation - and more broadly - what is best for the world. This would make us "worldcentric." It is a more evolved stance.

Next up is McCain's stance on interrogation. He believes that water boarding and torture should be outlawed, pointing to the fact that if we do it to terrorists, they'll do it us. But McCain forgets that terrorists move past torture and go straight to killing.

It would be tempting to put Ron Paul as #3, but Bachmann still has game in spite of her recent losing streak. Her broad public support might be limited, but she still has potential to win in Iowa. However, one win does not make a champion. A tough early schedule makes a win in game one possible, but odds do not look favorable that she'll capitalize and carry her support to New Hampshire and other early-voting states.

For starters, money can't buy you success. Mitt Romney spent millions of dollars on his campaign and he still lost. I'm not saying the money wasn't spent wisely. I'm sure his advisors spent that money just where it needed to be spent. It still didn't bring him a victory.

Considering only our own personal interests and voting accordingly makes us "egocentric." Here is ramanan ramakrishnan : that means "selfish!" I contend that the critical mass of this nation has grown beyond this stage of existence. I contend that more people than not have matured to a point where they can consider the needs of others - in life in general as in voting. Why is Boris Johnson so clearly headed for the top job? Well the simple reason is he is a winner. Those Tory MP's currently underwater and at risk of losing their seat at the next election are very worried. They are starting to wonder if a new leader might be a good idea after all. David Cameron has so far not delivered the goods he was elected for. With the premiership half gone it would take a lot to reverse the Tory decline.
