The mobile version of Minecraft - also known as Minecraft: Pocket Edition - is being coded to allow for massive changes literally. Developer Mojang posted on its website that it is "restructuring much of code to allow for substantially larger worlds to be created in future upgrades," and also tweaked the AI of creatures and inventory systems, and other details.

There's no date for the release of the Pocket Edition updates, but Mojang stated that "everything will go according to work out as planned." This sentence is thought to have been written while playing with a fluffy cat, or on the Death Star.
Mojang also "pausing access" to Pocket Realms beta. This allows persistent worlds to be saved on private servers. Mojang said that the Realms team is currently focusing on the release of PC Realms. "Once the PC Realms release is completed, we'll have a better area to focus on Pocket Realms, and make it as good as we can, which will be later in the year."
