I'm watching Cast Away right now at midnight, and nothing more than the sight of the golden glimmer of australium will bring Tom Hanks back to civilization.
I'll try and draw a connection with Cast Away and why you should totally choose the sweet bosom of my bottocks to place the grace and honor of the Tomislav.
So far, Tom Hanks is now skinny Jesus. As far as I can tell, it's a movie about the spiritual adventure into the soul, loneliness and connection. No movie draws attention to these essential parts of the human experience than a 2-hour ride experience with the lack of. It is for this same reason why the Tomislav, or any other item should not bear the world alone.
Will skinny Jesus Tom Hanks escape the island with his golden curly locks or will he stay on the island, cast away from everyone he knows and loves, and without a Golden Tomislav?
Perhaps Tom Hanks is actually more free than all the others back in civilization? Perhaps his isolation and forced separation is what allows him to achieve true freedom? Perhaps the Tomislav in itself, like that of civilization is the trap that we willingly enter ourselves. This pursuit of gold and glamor-- this want, and not need as depicted in this film.
Looking at it now, it seems that Tom Hanks is more himself, more quintessentially human than he was at the start of the movie, where his attitude and culture was variable to the people he knew and met. A golden tomislav might help illuminate this difference. aka. through greed and want, we might see the necessity from the wants.
With the reveal of the hangman's rope at the 12848 mark of the movie Cast Away, I believe it draws a connection between the two ends that Tom Hank's character sees. There's two ways out, you can go off the weight of a rope, or you can pull yourself together and throw yourself at the storm and hope that you either get home, or the waves take you quickly. In the same way, we're all either winners or losers. Someone has to lose, but someone has to win; otherwise, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between either group. But you should totally pick me for the Tomislav *coughs* *splutters*
One interesting thing depicted in the movie is how Tom Hanks insists on using his own blood to paint the face on Wilson. Why not use dirt, or any other substance that wouldn't risk self-harm and infection? In my eyes, it's because Hanks requires it to be his blood. In a way, it's intentionally and unequivocally self-harm of his beaten and weary soul. This sacrifice of... blood is the very same that I would offer you, if given the chance to hold the Australium glamor in pride and gleam.
Tom Hank's self-deprecation of his body onto Wilson and need for companionship is an ironic spin and turn of the human condition. A blood sacrifice in the middle of nowhere is no taboo to anyone other than the eyes of the beholder. In one's mind, filfth
and hygiene are ways of another place, and another time. Which is why my blood sacrifice of a two stillborn infants shall surely be enough to appease your blood hunger. Right?
If you don't go for the blood stuff, watching the scene where Tom Hanks attempts his escape on his raft, and the pure and utter anguish as Wilson drifts into the sea, along with his adamant drive to survive the waves of the sea and circumstance, symbolized by the package he's held on to for the past four years-- a remnant of the world he once knew and identified with reminds me about how the human identity and spirit to endure is so uniquely human. Because of this, I believe that blood and the commonplace of these nosensical sacrifices of one's self and identity is nothing-- nothing compared to the souls of living infants that hold promise and futures ahead of them. As such, my new appeal is the offer of three infants, torn from head to knees, skinned and torn out butterfly-styled.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS
And... stuff like that.
Oh Jebus, wow. It's REALLY depressing when Tom Hanks gets back. Like, wow. Seriously. His wife left him after all he went through on the island for the past four years! And I mean, you can sympathize with that totally. You sympathize with Hanks because we went the "long way 'round" and saw his all of his experiences and struggles to survive, and we want to see what's best for him. But this is a strong parallel with the normal life. People don't always see what you have to go through, and how difficult things might be for you. They take it at face-value, they see you for who you are at that moment, cuts, bruises, scars and how could you blame them-- they know nothing more than what they see then and there. You can't really blame his wife, and this quiet suffering is commonplace. If we can see others with this in mind, then perhaps, we can be better human beings. Better human beings with Australium Tomislavs of course.
Anyways, best of luck to whoever gets the Tomislav, we all gave it our best, so let the best man/woman/womyn/other win.
BUT TOM HANKS THO, CRAYCRAY. Spending the last hour commenting on this movie I'm watching. Makes me pretty upset with how thing go.
