The worlds of World of Warcraft are meant to look like different worlds, but they're not exactly the same. You can choose one and then follow its rules. If you wish to live in a different world, you must put in a lot of work to reach there. But quick glance at the WoW Realm Forums reveals that each server could be described as its own private high school.
Whatever names they are given, all realms have them. They have both celebrities who are known for their exploits (Death & Taxes on Korgath and Sebudai with Doomhammer), or who are known for their mistakes (Overrated on Black Dragonflight and Avatar on several servers, but originally Warsong). They have private dramas as well as screrenshots that are only amusing to those who live in that world.
Servers are famous for their different qualities: Argent Dawn is known for its role-playing (and entertaining Goldshire Cyber stories) Mal'Ganis is famous for its world-wide PvP and Black Dragonflight, Korgath and Korgath have top raiding guilds. There are rivalries between some servers. Arthas and Mal'Ganis have been sniping about the other since transfer options opened up. The inhabitants of Blackrock often infiltrate RP servers when Blackrock is down. Informal competitions also develop within battlegroups. A few servers even have official mottos. Two I can think of at the moment are "Tichondrius is not for you" and "Mal'Ganis KICKS!"
Shortly after the launch, Magtheridon was released. The only person we have in our group is Xzin and we do not have any world-changing guilds, and we're not the most effective in PvP. Many people talk about the "Magtheridon method," which as far as I'm aware, involves Alliance outnumbering Horde and a plethora of use of the server's illegitimate motto, which is three words long, starts with "go" and ends with "yourself." It's still a great location, despite the lag and could be a great spot to move.
