Initial stages

Ovum's Ovum gaming analyst Ed Barton told the BBC that the British Museum's move towards Minecraft would make it "perceived to be a fun activity" and serve as an educational tool for a young public.

"It's the digital equivalent of building the British Museum in Lego," he declared. "You need to build it brick by brick".

He said that the institution should be commended for crowdsourcing it "as this turns it into something collaborative" and could increase the number of younger Minecraft fans.

He added, "What an awesome project it would be to be to build the Elgin Marbles from Minecraft."
