Minecraft the End: how to find an end to The Portal

Thinking about entering The End? Here are some suggestions to locate an End Portal within a stronghold and how to construct one in creative mode.

Trying to find an End Portal in Minecraft? There's only one way to get to The End. That's the End Portal. The leap into a different dimension requires commitment, because when you step foot in the End Portal, there's no going back.



We are sure that you have your own reasons for visiting The End. Perhaps you'd like to travel the terrifying Ender Dragon or maybe you require some precious resources like End Stone or Chorus, or perhaps, as we do you simply enjoy the stark, endless view of the vast void. Whatever your reason, you'll have to hop into an End Portal to get there.



End Portals can only be located in the portal room of strongholds. You will require the Eye of Enders to guide you to the location of the stronghold. Then, you'll have to dig very deep underground to find it. Once you've found it you'll see it hanging over an lava pool. The majority of End Portals already have some Eyes of Ender in place, with a 10% chance of generating with an existing eye.



The End Portal activated will instantly transfer you to the End. There is no way to stop it. When you reach the End you will be spawned on a central island that has smaller islands around for exploration. To access these outer islands or leave the End, you'll need to defeat the Ender Dragon found on the main island. This will open an opportunity to either complete the game' and then return to the regular Minecraft overworld as we know it or continue exploring the outer islands.



How do you create an End portal in Minecraft



While survival mode requires you to locate an area of strength to open an End Portal, creativity allows you to create your own. Here's how to activate an End Portal:



12 x Eyes of Ender 12x Portal Frame Blocks



Create a 3x3 square on the ground. Once you're inside that zone, line your Portal Frame Blocks around the perimeter of the 3x3 square.



It doesn't matter if you constructed your own or discovered an End Portal in a Stronghold, place all 12 of the Eyes of Ender in their respective blocks to activate it. The portal won't be opened if only one Eye of Ender is placed horizontally. It will be evident that it is working when you are unable to see the lava (if you are looking at the stronghold version) and the ground (your created version).
