This is my Life and I'm Sticking to It.

After staying awake for almost 48-hours, everyone crashed when our heads hit the pillows.



Except for me.



I had a jarring headache as I was exhausted, and my eyes burned because I kept them open so long. My head throbbed when finally got to lie in quiet darkness. I wanted to rip my eyes out.



However, melatonin was the winner and I never woken up before 8:00 the next day.



Two children stayed in the same hotel as Grady and two others resided in the same hotel as me. After Grady left for work, breakfast was over and my children and I set off to explore a tiny part of Sydney.



The Sydney Harbor is unique - some areas are characterized by jagged cliffs, others quiet with sandy beaches, and some boasting a beautiful and modern skyline.



We weren't sure where we were going and we weren't sure what our energy levels would allow us to explore. So we decided to start our exploration with a small museum that provides an explanation of the British discovery of Australia as well as its first use for prisoners.



History, Geography, Social Studies: Check.



After having completed a series of clues to solve a riddle at the museum that Micah was insistent on doing and walking across the Sydney Harbor Bridge. This iconic bridge is the tallest steel arch bridge that is made up of only straight pieces of steel... even it is a huge arch.



A side note: Micah is frustrated he can't recreate the bridge in Minecraft. Architecture does indeed have a mathematical component.



Once across the Bridge We walked around Luna Park, mostly just for a chance to lay down, sip a cold drink and ice cream along the water.



When we visited, Australia was in the last days of summer and the beginning the autumnal season. We experienced an unstoppable breeze, but with temps in the mid-80's it was plenty warm.



From Luna Park we hopped on the ferry, sailed across the harbor, and took just a short walk of three blocks back to our hotel.



After seven hours of touring I imposed "quiet time" in the hotel. The kids wrote in journals and played video games and I closed my eyes. Grady entered the room at 5:30, took his laptop bag, and then went heading to dinner.



And, even though it was only 8:15, we were done for the day. The 15 hour time difference took some getting used to!

Everybody gave a single word description about Sydney following the first day: fantastic fun, easy to get around, beautiful, exciting, and friendly. We were happy knowing that we had almost two more weeks in the city to explore and explore!
