Minecraft continues to expand its reach on new systems with the announcement of a European launch on Vita on October 15. 4J Studios, the UK team porting the sandbox game, tweeted that there's not a confirmed date as yet for North America, adding "hopefully we'll hear from you soon."
Cross-buy is possible for the portable Minecraft version. If you've already bought the game on PSN it is also possible to purchase it on Vita. Developer Mojang stated that the asking price was $20 per PS3. Savings can be transferred between PS3 and Vita and DLC purchases can be made on both versions.
Mojang said at the time that it was in talks with Sony "to enable upgrade from Blu-ray disc Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita". We've contacted Sony to clarify if users who have Minecraft on PS3 Blu-ray are also able to play the Vita version for free. We're waiting to hear release dates for the Vita retail version. Next week's launch is limited to PSN.
