Minecraft: Java Edition's latest update added a new player reporting tool that allows players to report "inappropriate chat messages or risky behaviour" for moderators to look over. That seems like a good thing on its own however, a lot of Minecraft players aren't happy that it extends to private servers.
Because this is Minecraft players are able to change what they don't like. Mods are available that remove messages from your player profile.
Minecraft Servers
It's possible to do this with a few tweaks. No Chat Reports by Aizistral appears to "strips cryptographic signatures" which associate the messages you send to your Minecraft account, and also is compatible with the Forge and Fabric modding APIs. NoEnryption is Doclic's Minecraft Spigot server software. TechnicallyCoded also supports Spigot and claims that it's the only plugin capable of fully replicating the vanilla behavior and supports multiple languages.
These mods are obviously used at your own risk. They can be used on both the server and client side. If you install them on the client side, other servers may stop you from joining in the event that they decide to apply secure profiles. This is a good thing and doesn't mean you should be allowed to make use of these mods for in a smear campaign against people who need the security moderation can offer.
While it's understandable that Mojang regulate their community for their games however, it's normal for players to be nervous about private spaces being subjected to moderating. Moderation teams fail sometimes and players are concerned about being banned from their servers for comments that aren't appropriately contextualized. Even if moderation were infallible I don't think it's unreasonable for players to wish to opt out of moderation with full understanding of what it means.
Mojang responded to feedback from players following the update's testing phase. "We recognize that private servers operate independently from Mojang Studios, and many utilize this independence to create remarkable Minecraft innovations that enrich the community," they wrote on the Minecraft website. "But it has always been the rule that Minecraft servers of any size must adhere to the EULA and the Commercial Usage Guidelines, as well as our Community Standards. Every player should enjoy a safe Minecraft experience no matter where they choose to play."
Mojang also released this funny video about Minecraft being updated in a wicked way by a boss.
While Mojang may claim that players have always had to abide by "Community Standards", it's also worth noting that one Minecraft's most famous servers is 2b2t, a notoriously lawless anarchy site that is known for its sexism trolling, swastikas, and worse. It's a shady place. I would never want to play there. I'm sure Mojang would prefer that it to not exist. However, it's important to the culture as it was included in the Design/Play/Disrupt show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
