Hey Gamers: Don't Forget these Powerful Windows 11 Tools.

Life is better in 2022 for those who play on Apple macOS and Linux however Windows remains the most reliable PC operating system for games. Microsoft is aware of this and has added numerous gaming features into Windows over the years. Windows 11 adds even more gaming features. Here are the Windows 11 features that will make your next frag session even better.

Game Bar

Windows 11 Game Bar

Windows 11 ships with the Game Bar preloaded, giving users quick access to useful tools with just a keystroke. The Game Bar can be opened anytime even when you're not playing any game. You can do this by pressing Win +G. If your Xbox controller is connected to your computer, simply tap the Xbox button.

The Game Bar overlay includes widgets that let you capture gameplay footage as well as control audio output and monitor your PC's performance. In the settings, you can even log in to your social media accounts to allow immediate sharing of your captured videos and images.

DirectStorage

Microsoft has created a way for your hardware to communicate more effectively with each other, which could result in improved performance in games. DirectStorage is a program that doesn't require you to do anything other than turning it on. You do, however, need to hit certain hardware specs that might require an upgrade.

DirectStorage for Windows 11

DirectStorage lets your computer's storage (where game data lives) to directly connect to the GPU. This removes the necessity for CPU decompression which is a major performance bottleneck. DirectX 12 games can take advantage of DirectStorage as long as your PC has an NVMe SD and an appropriate GPU. Any AMD RDNA2 cards or Nvidia RTX 2000-series or later should work.

If you're unsure if your system is capable of handling DirectStorage, you will find out this information in the previously mentioned Game Bar. Select the settings menu and then select Gaming Features. This page will tell whether your gaming software, GPU and SSD are compatible.

Auto HDR

Windows 11 Auto HDR.

Games that include HDR (high-dynamic range) can produce vivid, more realistic colors. Developers have been adding HDR support to their games over the recent years. If you're playing a game which does not support HDR, Windows 11 can still boost the color with a feature called Auto HDR.

The problem is that you'll require a monitor that supports HDR and HDR-capable monitors tend to be more expensive than conventional panels. Windows can enhance algorithmically non HDR games provided you have a compatible monitor. This occurs at the OS level, so developers don't need to do anything. To enable Auto HDR, go to Settings > System > Display > HDR. Auto HDR will be enabled in the event that your monitor supports it. This will also include an HDR intensity slider to the Game Bar.

Game Mode

There's nothing more frustrating than watching your game's smooth and silky smooth frames because your PC decided that it was time to run a heavy operation in the background. A game can be rendered unplayable if it's struggling to maintain frame rates. Game Mode is a feature of Windows 11 that can stop this.

Windows 11 Game Mode

You'll find this feature under Settings > Gaming > Game Mode. This toggle is a single one that doesn't require any additional hardware. Flip it on, and Windows will not attempt to download or install updates in the background, and games that use the Windows notification system won't interrupt your game. When Windows detects that you are playing a game, Game Mode kicks in automatically.

Game widget store

Windows 11 Game widget store.

While the Game Bar is very functional when it first launches It's a lot more customizable than you might think. In the menus is a widget store, where you can buy more widgets for your overlay. It is located in the widget list (the leftmost button on the main bar). In the very bottom, you'll find the widget store.

The majority of the widgets available in this store are free. However there are a few paid overlays and widgets which can connect to desktop applications purchased by users. You can add floating YouTube videos to your screen, add an ethically questionable crosshair on your screen, and many other widgets. There are also widgets that allow you to control hardware, such as Corsair coolers and EVGA video cards.

Xbox app

Windows 11 Xbox app.

Microsoft's Xbox application comes with Windows 11. It's worth opening even though you don't own an Xbox. It lets you purchase PC games such as Cuphead, Destiny 2, and Minecraft however it's more than just a Steam replacement that has a less than stellar catalog. It also serves as the central point of Microsoft Game Pass on the PC.
i do what the voices in my head tell me

Game Pass is an subscription service that gives you access to an array of games for no cost. You can download and play these as long as they are on Game Pass. Microsoft has also purchased publishers such as Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda to ensure that there are plenty of games to choose from. Even if you don't have an expensive GPU, the Xbox app can help get your game on. Game Pass Ultimate, a $15 per month tier, features Cloud Gaming. This renders Xbox games on a remote server and streams games to your computer. Although the games available aren't a lot, you can find Halo Infinite as well as Forza Horizon 5 on this category. So, regardless of the method you choose to get your gaming fix, Windows 11 should have something that will make your experience more enjoyable.
