'Minecraft' now has 112 million Monthly Players

Fortnite might still have the most public attention, but that doesn't mean it's hurting the other gaming phenomenon. Microsoft's Helen Chiang told Business Insider in an interview that Minecraft now has 112 million active users each month, an increase of 20 million compared to figures as of October 2018. This is inclusive of all players, not just those who play the game through an Xbox Game Pass. However it's still an incredible achievement for a game that's been around for about 10 years.



Chiang stated that it was partly due to the innovative game's longevity -- players "keep returning" to it. Blogging is good You may fire up Fortnite or other games that take the spotlight, but there's a real chance you'll return to building homes and tunnels in Minecraft after that.



Other factors could be crucial too. On top of its sheer popularity across platforms, Minecraft's unwieldy graphics and basic mechanics allow you to play on low-end devices, whether it's an affordable PC or smartphone. You can still have excellent gaming experience with only the smallest investment in hardware.



Microsoft's current challenge is to keep the game relevant. The augmented reality aspect of Minecraft Earth helps, as do ray-tracing and other efforts to enhance the look. It's not clear that's enough, however. Roblox recently reached 100 million monthly players, and Fortnite may be on the verge of that (it was reported to have 78.3million players in August 2018). It won't take long for other games to catch the popular culture.
