MIAMI, CBSMiami -- The war in Ukraine could be at the other side of the planet, but South Floridians step in to aid those fleeing.
Many people from the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are fundraising and working to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated, "Just last night 1,100 people arrived."
She added that over two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to flee their war-ravaged country. A large portion of them are traveling through Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays said "from Moldova, this Jewish Community is actually helping to cross the border line and then maybe by providing shelter, food or even clothes."
A lot of the humanitarian work being done by volunteers from Sunny Isles in South Florida.
"My mission is to gather as many American social resources as possible to address the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun is an activist who has helped coordinate the humanitarian effort, said that there is an army of volunteers in Moldova helping organize food items and other necessities as well as coordinating buses.
Emmanuil Grinshpun This is compounded by the fact Moldova is one of the most deprived in the world. People who are part of the effort say they'll not let anything stop them from helping.
