MIAMI (CBSMiami) The city of Miami, the conflict in Ukraine might seem distant, South Floridians continue to step up to support those who are leaving.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are currently raising funds and helping to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.
https://www.facebook.com/emmanuil.grinshpun Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital said, "Just last night 1,100 arrived."
She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to leave their war-stricken country. A large portion of them are in Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays declared, "From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get across border lines and provides food, shelter, clothes, and other needs."
Most of the humanitarian efforts are spearheaded from the shores of South Florida, Sunny Isles.
"My Aufgabe is to draw all resources available from the American society to aid this situation in Moldova." We have a whole team of people who are on the ground in Moldova working hard to create camps, buy food, buying all the necessities, arranging buses," Emmanuil Grinshpun who has been working to organize the humanitarian effort.
This is further exacerbated by the fact that Moldova is one of the poorest countries in the world. Emmanuil Grinshpun Yet, those involved in the project say that they will not allow anything stop them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun "When our brothers and sisters from Ukraine arrived, we didn't have to think and we started doing the thing," said Grinshpun.

"Who was there during the Holocaust and when the Nazis won? How many people turned a blind eye and claimed that it wasn't my fault I'm not Jewish, it's not my neighborhood, I'm not part of Europe. We shouldn't repeat the same mistakes history has made. There's a saying that goes: "If it's not now then who is it?" Emmanuil Grinshpun If not me, then who?
