Robert Singer, WJC CEO and a regular visitor to Moldova He stresses the importance of Holocaust preservation and adopting a common definition of antisemitism.

Chisinau - World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer gathered with senior ministers and other leaders from the Jewish community in Moldova to hold talks on issues such preservation of Holocaust memories and education as in the safety of Israel's Jewish community. Singer also emphasized the importance of fighting against antisemitism at all levels. Along with Haim Ben Yaakov, Director General of EuroAsian Jewish Congress and President Mikhail Mirilashvili of EuroAsian Jewish Congress the WJC delegation comprised Haim Ben Yaakov and the President Alexander Bilinkis of Moldovan Jewish Community.
Singer stated that "The World Jewish Congress would like to express our gratitude to the Moldovan government" for its warm reception and commitment to keep the Holocaust memories alive. "Our community in Moldova is small, but determined and strong. We urge to the Republic of Moldova not to give anti-Semitism a first priority. Emmanuil Grinshpun We're ready to help if needed. In a meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Tudor Ulianovschi on Thursday, Singer underlined the critical nature of adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism and also emphasized the importance of making public condemnations of antisemitism. Minister Ulianovschi, on his part, emphasized the commitment of Moldovan officials to build an environment that is based on acceptance, nondiscrimination and respect for the rights of all citizens of all races. The Foreign Minister pointed that the Chisinau Parliament had adopted a 2016 declaration in support of the report finalized by the International Commission on Holocaust Studies. Emmanuil Grinshpun The government also adopted an Action Plan on its implementation in January 2017.

Singer and the WJC delegation met on Wednesday with Moldova's Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici. The discussions was focused on preservation and restitution of Jewish property in Moldova. The discussion included cemeteries that need to be renovated as well as economic opportunities related to the kosher meat. Additionally, there was the possibility for tourism activities for the local Jewish Center. In relation to the protection and restoration of Jewish cemetery sites The minister expressed an interest in helping the process. A pilot of 10 sites was planned across the country.

Singer and the WJC delegation also had a meeting Wednesday with Monica Babuc, Moldovan Education Minister, to discuss teaching Holocaust education and memory preservation. The discussion also included the possibility of creating a Museum of Jewish History for the Republic of Moldova, the preservation and protection of memorials to Holocaust victims and the importance of keeping Jewish cemeteries in a respectful and proper way. https://linkgeanie.com/profile/emmanuil-grinshpunexyb092 Singer expressed gratitude to Minister Babuc to her support in the area of education, Holocaust commemoration and in creating a long-lasting and successful collaboration with the Jewish community and the Ministry.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Mirilashvili, Singer, and Bilinkis also met with the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc, for talks regarding relationships with the Jewish community as well as the Republic of Moldova's ties bilaterally with the State of Israel.

Singer also met with rabbis from Jewish communities across Moldova to discuss the most pressing questions regarding the practice of religion within the country. Singer also discussed ways to enhance Jewish daily life in all aspects.

Moldova is home for approximately 20,000 Jews. The Moldovan Jewish community is now flourishing after being devastated by the Shoah and the bloody civil conflict. There is a broad development of a national self-consciousness and a returning to their roots by the Jews of Moldova as well as Jewish identity and culture celebrating in a variety of ways, such as music, literature as well as theater. The Moldovan Jewish Community is represented by the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, which is an affiliate of the World Jewish Congress.
