Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI(CBSMiami), Ukraine war may be on opposite side of the planet However, South Floridians have the ability to help those fleeing.

Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising money and aiding in create a total humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that "just last night, 1100 patients came."

She said that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-torn nation. Many of these refugees cross into Moldova that borders Ukraine.

Jaquays said, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually working to move them across the border and offering food, shelter and clothing."

Much of the work for humanitarian causes is being done by volunteers from Sunny Isles in South Florida.

"My responsibility is to coordinate all resources available from American society to help with the situation in Moldova." We have a full team of people on the ground in Moldova doing their best to create camps, buy food, purchasing all the amenities, organizing buses," Emmanuil Grinshpun, who has been helping in the coordination of the humanitarian efforts.

Grinshpun: "When our brothers and sisters from Ukraine were arriving to visit us, we didn't feel the need to consider. Instead, we simply started doing it."
