MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the war in Ukraine may seem far away, South Floridians continue to help those seeking refuge.
Many of the Sunny Isles Jewish community are fundraising and working in coordinating a massive humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital posted the following "Just last night, 1100 patients came."
She said that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to flee their war-ravaged country. A large portion of them are traveling through Moldova that borders Ukraine.
"From Moldova, this Jewish community is actually helping them get across the border and then maybe offering them food, shelter, and even clothes," added Jaquays.
The heart of much of the humanitarian effort is located in South Florida.
"My job is to coordinate the maximum amount of resources from American society to assist with this crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun We have a whole team of people on the ground in Moldova working hard to create camps, buy food, purchasing all the necessities, arranging buses" Emmanuil Grinshpun, who has been helping in the coordination of the humanitarian efforts.
The worst part is that Moldova is one of the poorest nations around the globe. Emmanuil Grinshpun But, those who are involved in the effort say they will not let anything to stop them from helping.
Grinshpun declared, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters arrived, we didn't have to think. We began doing it."

"Who was present during the Holocaust when the Nazis took over? What percentage of people have turned a blind, claiming that it's not them or that they're not Jewish and it's not my community and that it's not Europe?
