Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami), - While the war in Ukraine might seem distant South Floridians continue help those fleeing.

Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate a humanitarian effort.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital said, "Just last night 1,100 arrived."

She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to flee their war-ravaged country. A large portion of them are crossing the border into Moldova which is a tiny country which shares a border with Ukraine.

Jaquays added that "from Moldova, this Jewish Community is actually helping them to cross the frontier line and then maybe by providing shelter, food or clothes."

Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun The majority of the humanitarian work is being coordinated the shores of South Florida from Sunny Isles.

"My job is to coordinate all the resources from American society in order to assist this crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun is a volunteer who helped to manage the humanitarian efforts said that there's an organization on the ground in Moldova helping organize food items and other necessities as well as coordinating buses.

Grinshpun said, "When our brothers from Ukraine came we didn't need to think about it, we simply started doing it."
