Khazak Ambassador & Consul General Meet with Chabad New York ( Emmanuil grinshpun).

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. Emmanuil Grinshpun Since being appointed Kazakhstan's ambassador in the United States in April, Mr. Ashikbayev has met with many government officials and diplomats in the hopes of strengthening relations between Kazakhstan Central Asian country and the U.S. As part of this mission the ambassador, along with Consul General Almat Aidabekov, scheduled a conference with Chabad to discuss the current state of Jewish living in Khazakstankhstan.

Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky Shimon Rivkin (Merkos Suite 302 in the Chabad Headquarters) and Mr. Emmanuil Grunshpun who is vice-president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. He is also Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan. They discussed the past and current state of Jewish life in Kazakhstan and the activities of Chabad, Kazakhstan’s Chief Rabbi and head Shliach, Yeshaya Cohen.

The government of Kazakhstan's mainly Muslim populace is proud to be tolerant of religion and works closely with all kinds of religious leaders to ensure the wellbeing in the country. As the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan and Ambassador Ashikbayev has already worked with Chabad Shluchim and philanthropist M. Abraham Shaulson. Since all flights were grounded last year as a result of COVID-19, he helped in securing a special authorization for a small contingent from America to fly into Kazakhstan to make an excursion to the gravesite of Reb Levi Yitzchak Schneerson on the 20th of April - the anniversary of his death. This also provided an opportunity for the group to fly and provide much-needed PPE to the country. The 20th day of Av only two months away the meeting also discussed the plan for the next pilgrimage. The organizers anticipate more than 600 people from all walks of the globe to attend this year's event.
