This is the reason behind the new super high refresh rate panels on Alienware gaming laptops. The Dell subsidiary now sells its M17 R5 17-inch laptops as well as x17R2 17-inch laptops with brand new panels. It's said to be the fastest in industry.
Although the panels can only display 1080p resolution with this amazing speed, it's likely for good. After all, you'll need to be running a game that can actually output nearly 500 frames-per-second to reap the benefits - switch off ray-tracing, and opt for Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. The new panel comes with an average response time of 3ms and is compatible with NVIDIA GSync and AMD FreeSync, depending on your GPU configuration. The upgrade costs $300 over the 165Hz base screen, which equates to 95 cents per hertz.
I've seen demonstrations of 120hz screens against 240hz at trade shows and they were enough to convince me that at the very least some ultra-fast gamers would see some benefit from them. But how about doubling the speed again? Dein freund It can't improve the actual performance of gaming which I doubt, even for eSports pros equipped with Special Eyes. Gaming equipment is famous for its extravagant overkill.
