Avanos Medical is recalling Cortrak*2 Entry Access System. Cortrak 2 eternal access system The FDA says that patients have suffered injuries and even killed by nasogastric and nasoenteric tube misplacement. The recall currently comprises 629 devices distributed in the United States.
Avanos Medical feeding tube Avanos marketing the Cortrak*2 Endural Access System is known for its on-screen visualizations of stomachs and small bowels to aid in the placement of medical feed tubes. Patients are at risk of damage to their vocal cords, lungs or the trachea if the tube is not correctly placed. Avanos Medical recalls that there were sixty injuries, 23 deaths and 23 illnesses resulting from the incorrect placement or accidental insertion of a feeding tube for nasogastric patients using the CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System. Pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and pneumothorax. Perforation (a hole or opening in the lung's wall), pneumonia, and Pleural effusion (excess liquid between the lungsand chest cavity) are a few of the injuries.
Avanos Medical describes a plan to revise labeling in order to ensure proper placement of tubes for nasogastric and nasoenteric before it is used.
Avanos is the second warning that the FDA has issued about intra-oral feeding tubes. In February, the FDA issued a caution to healthcare providers as well as parents about the possibility of strangulation for children using feeding tubes.
