According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Avanos Medical is recalling the Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System due to misplacement of nasoenteric or nasogastric tubes has caused injuries and patient deaths. The recall covers 629 devices, which were distributed throughout the United States.
Avanos selling its Cortrak*2 Endural Access System has been primarily for its screen-based visualizations of stomachs of patients and small bowels, which aid in the placement of medical feed tubes. However, patients may suffer from damage to their vocal cords as well as lungs if the tube is not properly inserted. feeding tube placement Avanos Medical's recall notice states that, since 2015 there has been 60 deaths and 23 injuries related to incorrect placement of nasogastric feed tubes using the CORTRAK*2 enteral access system. Pneumothorax (collapsed lung), pneumothorax, perforation (a gap or hole within the lung's wall), pneumonia, and Pleural effusion (excess liquid between the lungsand chest cavity) are a few of the injuries.

The Avanos warning was the second FDA warning in 2022 regarding enteral feed tubes. Avanos Medical In February, parents as well as healthcare professionals were informed by the FDA regarding the risk of strangulation of children with feeding tubes. Two instances were reported of strangulation in children who had a feeding tube wrapped around their necks.
