This seemingly easy task will require a lot of knowledge. The person who assists must comprehend the concept of"towers," understand the concept of "tower" and how to build one, be aware that "15 blocks high" is a measurement of the tower height and also know what "15" is. It must also understand the concept of smiley and know how to construct it, and what it means to place it on top.
But the opportunities for an AI to learn are immense. If Facebook can get enough human support, the assistant might seek out human assistance in learning.
Facebook has given itself the task to design the AI that can self-improve. One of the most common criticisms of AI systems is that they don't learn new tasks that are not for which they are trained and for which data is collected and compiled. However, the researchers believe that the Minecraft environment is the perfect one to create this type of learning.
This is an interesting project that maps out an ambitious goal for Facebook. Of course, it's still in the early stages. The team describes the work as an "call to arms."
