These Accounts are Typically Quickly Reported

Secondary accounts, alternate accounts, or alts, are usually lower levelled or less frequently used accounts (some of which are pure and throwaway accounts).

A throwaway account, also often referred to as a rag or a ragger, is an alternate account that was created to carry out a certain task, the owner having no intention of creating the account. It is sometimes used to accomplish something threatening or controversial like griefing, which is the deliberate act of causing harm to other players' gaming experiences by using aspects of the game in unintentional ways or disrupting the community. RSWIKI.NET (The act is also known as ragging.) It can also be used to revisit or experience lower-level content and quests.

Use that is legal[edit

Many players choose to play both a regular account and an ironman account to experience the game in a different way, but not limiting themselves to only the other. This is also true for pures.

The most common reason for having alternate accounts is to earn money while training skills on the main account, allowing players to accumulate the wealth while using costly methods that offer high levels of experience. Runecraft, merchanting , and killing lucrative Slayer monsters are the most common methods to earn money to achieve this goal, since they are relatively low effort and allow for playing two accounts simultaneously.

Secondary accounts can be used to monitor Wilderness dangers (e.g. Secondary accounts can be used to analyze Wilderness dangers (e.g. King Black Dragon hunting), storage where they are known as mules or mule account (mules in Deadman Mode are not allowed) and to fix the Blast Furnace. As a scout, secondary accounts are essential since they can help seek out dangers and prevent your main from falling victim to a player killer. Scouts are also player killer and can be utilized to identify potential victims.

Players may make use of throwaway accounts to access the latest content they've already completed for their more advanced characters. For instance when a revised version of the tutorial (Tutorial Island, Troll Warzone, Ashdale, etc.) was released on RuneScape 3, many players made throwaway accounts to test the new content. Usually the accounts are then discarded and never reactivated.

A partner is required to complete quests such as Shield of Arrav or Heroes Quest. However, you will require both accounts logged in at the same time and, as such, is perfectly legal as long as it doesn't require glitches or rule-breaking. [2]

In addition, prior to the Custom Nightmare Zone update, players used booster accounts, which only had certain quests completed to unlock certain bosses that cater to the player's requirements in combat and build. Nightmare Zone boosting may still be done, but this practice has seen a decline in popularity due to said update.

Prohibited usage[edit edit source edit source

Gold-farming bots are yet another example of malicious throwaway accounts. These bots are designed to play continuously to generate gold to be sold to players in exchange for real money (i.e. trading in real-world markets. Accounts can also be used as auto-talkers to advertise websites that trade RuneScape gold.

Accounts that are thrown away are also used to insult and defraud other players. These accounts are typically reported swiftly and banned as soon as possible. They don't have any impact on the overall health of the community.

edit sourcePunishment[edit

Although other players can choose to ignore the player, untrue throwaway accounts are often investigated by Jagex moderators, and eventually removed. Jagex moderators might track throwaway accounts in a few cases. This could result in actions being taken against the user's primary account. While the actions of a throwaway user may be considered illegal, this varies on a case-by-case basis and the country of residence.
