'Minecraft' Gets its Own Official Monthly Swag Box

Monthly subscription boxes are a novel idea. The subscribers pay a fee to receive t-shirts as well as other merchandise. raunge Companies like Loot Crate, Fancy, Graze and Dollar Shave Club all utilise the model however, there's a brand new entrant on the scene: Mojang. This is right, Minecraft now has its own swag box.



For a monthly fee of $30, Mojang says it will provide subscribers with a unique "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked, official, Minecraft goodies." The company will keep the exact items secret however, it says that customers can expect an exclusive t-shirt, DIY craft recipes, exclusive items that can't be found in stores and a selection of collectibles every month.



The Mine Chest was first unveiled in July 2015 at MineCon. Mojang made 5,000 beta keys available to attendees to secure the first boxes, but now it's open to everyone. Although it's the perfect gift for any Minecraft player However, it comes with some caveats.



First, Mojang requires that subscribers choose a monthly plan, which is charged in advance, however, shipments aren't due until May. Mojang says that paying up front allows it to better serve customers by buying more expensive items in larger quantities to drive costs down. Each month, a Mine Chest will be charged $7 shipping. Mine Chests are only available in the US at this time. Mojang is blaming high shipping costs for its exclusivity, but claims that it is "working extremely hard" in order to lower them.
