Emmanuel, good afternoon. I appreciate the opportunity to chat with you. I don't think we've seen each other in more than five years. What are your current residences?

You mentioned that you were tossing around between Miami (and Jurmala) all year. The Baltics are home to the head office of an IT company.

We have five hubs across the world and headquarters in Barcelona.

Why not the Baltics? Are you also rooted there?

No. There is no. Jurmala was an accidental meeting that came about completely by chance. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. After several competitions, they began to go to Miami every summer. Miami the summer weather isn't exactly the most relaxing. We rented the home for many years and have now purchased the property.

My family and me came to America in the mid-80s. I was exposed to traditions and rituals that were prevalent in America. Even though I don't adhere to orthodoxy, I feel a deep desire to be a part of the religion of the Jewish communities in my country of birth or Moldova. I was born in Moldova and have maintained friendships with the Jewish communities in Moldova.

Although I'm not a religious person, I enjoy history immensely. I was recently watching an documentary on 1492 and the way it altered Europe's destiny. 1492 is for me the year that Columbus discovered America. But, it was mentioned clearly in the programme that 1492 was the year when Columbus discovered America. When the mass exodus from Jews to the Ottoman Empire began. They were accepted by the Ottoman Empire. I was looking for more information on the history of Jews. Would you recommend a good book for me to read?

There are many books. But I've gone through a few of them and recommend Max Diamond (a two-volume Jewish historian). By the way Max Diamond is from Finland.

.... Do your family members have any "personal" or historical history? Unfortunately, I'm no more than my grandmother, and 1910. Paternal relatives are a step closer, however nothing any further.

Our family was an Floresti family for a number of hundred of years, according to the paternal lines. There are evidence from the archives and monuments to show that by 1830, they were very prosperous with a furniture factory, several shops, land plots. My maternal ancestors were in Ungheni. These dates are in the region between the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun has a German surname, and we are Ashkenazis of Eastern Europe.

Let's now discuss the restoration of synagogues. I heard that you have helped fund the restoration of three synagogues. One is in Chisinau and another in Jurmala. The third one is in Jurmala.

It is situated in Netanya in Israel. It is a huge community center where 1,000 people a day pray. It is a significant monument for Israel's religious life. The second synagogue, Jurmala. The Second World War saw the destruction of the synagogue that was the only one in Jurmala. Before I decided on building a synagogue in Jurmala I had spoken to the local Jews. It was an enormous success and brought together the Jews of Jurmala. We have actually created an existing Jewish community that is now successfully functioning. The synagogue now owns three Torahs. One of these Torahs was given to me.

and - Chisinau

Yes. Here I have already collaborated with my partners - Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein. The synagogues mentioned above are not the only ones that I helped with the reconstruction or building. I felt it was my obligation to make any contribution possible in support of synagogues in countries where I've lived for a considerable period of duration. In Monaco there is a huge center for Russian-speaking Jews is being constructed. My contribution is approximately 12 million dollars. Chisinau will remain my support - the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson is now the largest within the city.

In the same way as Jurmala, did you invite Rabbis to Chisinau?

Yes. It can be very difficult to identify the ideal Rabbi for your congregation. Because of the interconnectedness between his interests, he should be non-conflict-free and diplomatic and able to easily join the community. It was a joy to see how the rabbis from both Chisinau as well as Jurmala were able to integrate seamlessly into the local community's activities.

You were named the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress' first vice-president in 2019. What does this title mean to you, and how do international Jewish organizations affect global trends?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, a strong organisation in the post-Soviet region, is not only an influential political organization. It also has offices in Australia and Japan. I was Vice President in 2010 and then given the post as First Vice President. As of now, I'm the First Vice President for the region with which I've strong business and political connections. These are Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). In terms of trends around the world the barometer of attitudes towards Jews is either in the same place or, which is sad, has dropped. Moreover, "down" - this refers to such developed countries as Belgium, Germany, France as well as the United States. These countries are no longer safe for Jews. They are extremely dangerous and disturbing events that affect everyone of us.

What is the way that the pandemic has changed these processes and how has it affected these?

This isn't my opinion. In fact, in the situation of the pandemic, I'd like to point out what a society and country can achieve when they're ready to face any challenge, and work with each other.

Do you mean the Israeli vaccination campaign?

Exactly. Israel is the first country to offer 100 100% vaccination for its adult population. It is an excellent example that I believe other countries ought to take note of.
