Poland Sees more Cyberattacks on Government Servers and Official Says

WARSAW, Feb 25 (Reuters) - The computers of the Polish government and the national system for payment clearing have experienced more cyberattacks in recent weeks, a government official in charge of cyber security said on Friday.



Janusz Cieszynski, speaking on Polish public radio, said the authorities have not yet identified the origin of the attacks, which come in the midst of Russia presses a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland's eastern neighbour.



Ukraine has also been hit by several cyberattacks in recent weeks that Kyiv blames on Russia. Moscow has repeatedly denied involvement in the attacks.



Cieszynski declared that "the website of the (Polish national clearing system, as well as servers dedicated to government email networks were hacked."



"The attacks are being closely monitored... It's too early to determine the authorship of these attacks."



Separately the head of Poland's largest power utility PGE SA, Wojciech Dabrowski told the radio station that his company's IT networks had also been attacked, but added that they were secure and that supply of heat and power had not been interrupted.

Poland has increased its cyber security alert on Monday, requiring the operators of critical infrastructures to carefully check and maintain their systems.



Many companies and governments in the West are on alert for cyberattacks since the announcement of harsh economic sanctions against Russia. Russian forces were reportedly attacking Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv, on Friday.
