Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues, and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grishhpun was interviewed regarding the restoration synagogues. It was however impossible to keep the conversation focused on a single topic. There were numerous other subjects that were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. Thank you for allowing me to chat with you. We've not seen each others for at least 5 or more years. Where are you currently located?

The past nine months were split between Miami (Miami) and Jurmala (Jurmala). Previously, the geography was larger, but the pandemic has significantly affected the way of life. This isn't saying it's only for the worse.

You have always had several kinds of business. What's the next step?

Diversification hasn't gone anywhere. If we concentrate on the most important areas then real estate development, IT, and food production are three most important areas.

ALIMCOM is a prominent player in the real estate and food industries. However, IT is a complete mystery to me. There are millions of applications of IT technology. What are your areas of expertise?

Our IT-holding is occupied, first of all, with tax system reforms across a variety of countries. We have created or are developing a range products to aid in the transfer of variety business processes related to taxation, both online and "real-time". This type of segment is known as B2G ("Business to Government").

And what about the regions in which the holding is operating? Эммануил Гриншпун Are there any ex- USSR countries?

They also exist, but we have more contracts with Western and Eastern Europe and in Latin America. Our current operations are in 14 countries.

Эммануил Гриншпун Can you briefly formulate what the main idea behind this product?

Our solution lets economic agents online file tax returns, and the fiscal operator is able to view every transaction. Tax accounting and tax calculation can both be done in parallel. In the near future it's possible to say that smaller and mid-sized companies are not going to require accounting.

It's an interesting subject. The future is right around the corner. Did you ever consider working in Moldova? Moldova is the country you were born in isn't it?

We are prepared to launch our product to Moldova, the Moldovan economy will benefit from such automation, and, in any case, it is an irreversible process. We will resume discussions on our product after we get confirmation from the authorities.

You mentioned that you'd been tossing and turning between Miami and Jurmala all year. Is this the head office of an IT company based in the Baltics

There are five hubs in the world, as well as the headquarters is located in Barcelona.

No. There is no. And Jurmala came into our lives by chance and quite prosaically. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. After winning numerous competitions, they started to go there each summer. Miami's climate during the summer isn't the most relaxing. We rented a property for a number of years and are now the owners of it.

Now I understand the reason why you mentioned that there were synagogues in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're almost identical in age. Born in the USSR. We were all Komsomol participants and pioneers at the time. When did you turn to religious belief?

My family moved to the USA in the mid-80s. In the USA, I began to observe the customs and rituals of my family. Even though I don't believe in orthodoxy I am aware of a profound need to support the faith-based life of Jewish communities of my country of birth or Moldova. I was born in Moldova and have maintained close ties with the Jewish communities in Moldova.

Although I'm not religious, I do love the past. I was watching a documentary about 1492's events that changed the course of Europe's destiny. 1492 is for me the year Columbus discovered America. But, I could see clearly in the program the program mentioned that the discovery of America in 1492 from Medieval Europe was not as remarkable as Spanish monarchs expulsion of Jews of Spain. As the departure of Jews started to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted the Jews. I am interested in finding out more about the culture and history of the Jews. Would you suggest a book?

There are many books out there, but I have personally read all of them and highly recommend Max Diamond's two volumes of Jewish history. He himself is Finnish.

.... Do you feel acquainted with the history of your family? My family tree is only one step beyond 1910 and my maternal grandmother. I'm only one step ahead in the paternal slant, but not much more.

Our paternal family lived in Floresti for more than 100 years. Monuments and documents show that the Floresti family was already wealthy in the year 1830. They had several shops, a furniture factory as well as land plots. My maternal ancestors also lived in Ungheni. I'm talking about dates in the 17th-18th centuries. Grinshpun is a surname which has German roots is Ashkenazi pure Ashkenazi.

The question now is about the restoration of synagogues. I have been informed that you have funded the restoration of three synagogues. One is in Chisinau and the other is in Jurmala, and the third?

The third, and the largest, is in Netanya (Israel). It's a massive community center that houses more than 1,000 people every day. It is a significant landmark in the Israeli religious history. The second synagogue in Jurmala. The Second World War saw the destruction of the sole synagogue in Jurmala. Before deciding to build a synagogue, I spoke a lot with the local Jews and consequently, I decided to fund the construction of the synagogue and invite Rabbis to the site. It was an enormous success and brought together the Jews of Jurmala. Actually, the Jewish community was revived and now is functioning in good standing. The synagogue has three Torahs. One of these Torahs was handed to me.

and - Chisinau?

Yes. Here , I've worked with two of my friends - Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein. These synagogues were not the only ones I have been involved in their restoration or construction. Эммануил Гриншпун It was my obligation to support the work of synagogues throughout the countries that I've been a while. This is why my contribution is in Monaco and in Miami a large community center that is aimed at Russian-speaking Jews is currently being built with a value of around 12 million dollars. I do not stop helping Chisinau as well. In the near future, it will be the largest synagogue in the town, that of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Also, did you invite a rabbi from Chisinau to join Jurmala?

Yes. It is very difficult to find the right Rabbi for the community. Given the complex interrelated interests, he must also be non-conflictual, diplomatic and diplomatic. He must be able to integrate into the community. I'm pleased to say that both in Chisinau and Jurmala the Rabbis were able to integrate into the community.

In 2019 you were named vice-president at the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this position have to do with you? How can international Jewish organizations impact global trends?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is a powerful political organization within the post-Soviet region and not just. It has offices in Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. In 2010, I was Vice-President of Congress. The year before I was elected First Vice President. Now, I'm responsible for the region to which I have strong business and political ties. These include Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). Trends in the world show that attitudes towards Jews is either in the same place as it was before or has fallen and is very depressing. These are extremely dangerous and alarming procedures for us all.

How has the pandemic affected these processes, by the way?

Эммануил Гриншпун This isn't my opinion. Rather, in connection with the pandemic, I would want to highlight what a community or nation can accomplish in the event that they are prepared to meet any challenge and competent and work collectively.

Does this represent the vaccination campaign for Israel?

Exactly. Israel is first nation in the world that gives 100% vaccination for adults. I consider this to be a valuable example and experience that other countries should learn from.
