British Museum to be digitally recreated in Minecraft By Joe Miller Technology Reporter

The video game Minecraft will recreate the British Museum in London, complete with all of its exhibits.
The project is part of the Museum of the Future scheme, which aims to expand the institution's appeal.
Many real-world organizations have created maps within the Minecraft universe, including Ordnance Survey and the Danish government, which aims to make young people more aware of their work.
Last week, Minecraft was purchased by Microsoft for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn).
A spokesperson for the museum stressed that the project was in "an initial stage of planning", and the "build" was not yet started.
She explained that the company was looking to recruit volunteers to assist with the "construction".

Nearly six million visitors visit the museum every year. The museum holds eight million objects.
Its natural history collections were moved to a new building in South Kensington in the 1880s which would become the Natural History Museum

One British Museum employee posted details of the project on social media site Reddit and asked for volunteers to get involved.
He received enthusiastic feedback from Minecraft fans all over the across the globe.

Initial stages
Digitally creating the Great Court, facade and interior of the building is the first step in the process.
The institution hopes this stage will be ready before the public debate entitled changing public dialogues around museum collections in the digital age. The debate will take place on 16 October.
Ed Barton, who researches gaming for the analytics firm Ovum Ed Barton, who is the head of Ovum's gaming research department, BBC the British Museum's move to Minecraft will allow it to be "perceived as something fun", and would be an effective educational tool for a younger demographic.
"It's the digital equivalent of building the British Museum in Lego," he said. "You must build it brick by brick".
He added that the institution was to be commended for crowdsourcing the project "as it transforms it into something that is collaborative" and could further engage youngsters Minecraft gamers.
He added, "What an awesome project it would be been to be asked to build the Elgin Marbles using Minecraft."
