Brundidge Recalls the Quotes Her Son Used to Say

In March, she was able to discover the miracle she was looking for during a trip to Texas. While walking around the RV park in which the family was staying, Brundidge noticed Brandon was suddenly brimming with confidence. The normally shy and quiet youngster was now giggling and strutting around the RV park, talking to strangers and, frankly speaking, worrying his mother about his newfound bravado.

"I wondered, why is my son so courageous?" Brundidge told CNN.

"These are my fans," Brandon replied. They know me. They love me.

Brundige was confused until her son stopped her and pointed at something.

"See? "It's my word!" He said.

Looking up, she was shocked to see a sign with the same slogan as dozens of banners, bumper stickers and other paraphernalia in the area: "Let's Go Brandon."

Brundidge was recalled as telling her son, "That's no sign." "That's your book."

The book led to a delightful meeting

The meanings and origins of "Let's Go Brandon", are not so positive.

The phrase is a minced swearing oath to "F*** Joe Biden" that first came to light during a broadcast of the NASCAR Sparks 300 race in October 2021. The crowd at Talladega Superspeedway was chanting the phrase when NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast and her husband, who had apparently misinterpreted the phrase, claimed they were chanting "Let's go Brandon" in honor of the winner of the race, Brandon Brown.

'Let's go Brandon",' he explained.

Conservative celebrities quickly embraced the misinterpretation and included it in their political vocabulary. Today, "Let's Go Brandon!" declarations are commonplace on the internet and on all sorts of conservative products.

Brandon Brundidge didn’t know any of this. To Brundidge, it was a source of encouragement.

Within one month of her son's epiphany, and with a lot of hustle from her publisher and illustrator Sheletta Brundidge released her new book, "Brandon Spots His Sign," this April.

In the story, Brandon is nervous about taking part in activities such as dancing and swimming because he fears his autism will hinder his participation. He also notices the "Let's Go Brandon!" messages that encourage Brandon to take on more risks. The book's back also contains tips for encouraging autistic people.

The book attracted the attention of President Joe Biden, who sent Brandon a letter of admiration. It also reached Brown, the NASCAR driver who unwittingly helped in the creation of the "Let's Go Brandon" craze. Brown had been publicly not averse to the phrase, but was struggling to keep sponsors in light of its polarizing nature.

Brown's team contacted Brundidges to invite Brundidges to attend an upcoming Xfinity Series event. Within one week, the Brundidges family was at Wisconsin's Road America track where they were treated as VIPs. Brown had Brundidge's cover printed on the hood of the Camaro.

The book's cover is displayed on the hood of Brown's race car.

"I know how it works. People will invite you to places after you've earned some respect. But Brandon [Brown] was genuinely the most sweet person," Brundidge said. He could have been patient. He could have just read the book and thought, "That's cool." He was aware of the importance of creating awareness."

Brandon The younger Brandon even had the privilege of pushing Brown's car, which he claimed was one of his top parts. This, and getting to know Brandon.

The boy also gave the driver an autism awareness pendant that hangs on a chain which is a resemblance to one of his own.

Brundidge said, "He hasn’t taken it off since."

The pendants that the two Brandons wear to raise awareness for autism are displayed.

For Brown the meeting, which was awe-inspiring, was a chance to reclaim an expression he believes has gotten too nasty.

"To see this happen was like that breakthrough moment for us," Brown said after the Xfinity Series race. "This could be a positive thing. This can be positive. It doesn't have to be hateful or divisive."

CNN reached out to NASCAR to find out their thoughts.

The meeting led to friendships.

The new bond between the Brandons didn't stop after the race. Sheletta Brundidge says Brown texts or calls her son every day to discuss Minecraft or to check in on him.

The whole experience has been a huge motivational boost for Brandon's younger self. Brandon.

Brandon Brundidge was able to make his name appear on Brown's car.

Brundidge says, "I have seen him confidence soar." Minecraft servers "Kids with autism are frequently left out or are chosen last." It's usually because other children don't understand why they do the things they do.

"You just have to pray for a strong support system, and for love," she continues. "And Brandon Brown has loved my child. He has shined a light on children with autism for the entire world to see."

Brandon Brundidge now has gained a new friend as well as new fans and stacks of new books to sign. Brandon Brundidge told CNN that it was hard work. His mom hopes this experience shows how much children with autism can thrive with love and encouragement.

In spite of the bitter divisions, there are still little miracles.
