Our friend: I learned about network slicing in addition to feel it is definitely the same concept as QoS in case it is End-to-End, will there be any big difference between both?
Me personally: Actually, network slicing gives a complete end-to-end virtual network with regard to a given origin. No existing QoS-based solution will offer anything at all like that.
My buddy: Can you provide me some examples?
Me: Of course, by way of example QoS can discriminate VoIP traffic from the other types of traffic like HD online video and web surfing. However, QoS cannot discriminate and differentially treat a similar variety of traffic (e. g. VoIP traffic) coming from different sources, while in case same type involving traffic is allocated to different slices, it can be discriminated and taken care of differently. Also, QoS does not include the ability to perform visitors isolation at all. For example, IoT traffic from some sort of health monitoring system (e. g. hooking up hospitals and outpatients) typically has tight privacy and protection requirements which could be achieved if it is assigned to the specific slice.
