Amazon will Carry the Muscle-sensing Myo Geo Gesture Armband by the first Quarter of the Year.

About a year after receiving our first taste of Myo, Thalmic Labs has announced that it will be reaching out to the masses by the use of Amazon this quarter. Similar to its pre-order available on the company's website, this muscle-sensing gesture control armband will retail for $199. Thalmic Labs already sold over 50k pre-orders, with around half of them being delivered to customers. This is a great affirmation of the applications Thalmic Labs and its partners have demonstrated.

If you're not familiar with the Myo It is made up of eight muscle-sensing modules that you can attach to the widest part of your forearm. This will then allow the device to recognize your hand gestures. For instance, you can squeeze your fist, spreading your hands, waving your hands left or right, rotating your fist, or something that is as small as a pinch of your thumb and a second finger (which can be set to either activate or pause the Myo). In addition, there's the combination of an accelerometer, gyroscope and a magnetometer that can detect your arm's movement.



The Myo has no power button. minecraft It wakes up immediately when you take it out of your hand and then automatically goes to sleep in the event that it is left to its own. A single charge can last somewhere between 10 to 14 hours if used constantly, which is impressive.



The communication link relies on Bluetooth LE, and there's an Myo Connect app that feeds the motion input back to whichever device or program you're using to control. Thalmic Labs demo room featured the Myo to control video playback, volume, and race the sun, an addictive game of flight-based obstacle avoidance and an Orbotix Ollie rolling robotic robot. Except for the connectivity issues with the Ollie, and the challenging nature of the game's scenarios the majority of the scenarios were quite easy for us.



We have seen Myo demos that featured PowerPoint, iTunes and Call Of Duty. Users will be able download apps "connectors" from the Myo Market to try out some of these use cases and also to control Spotify, Netflix, Sonos plus popular games like Minecraft and Saints Row IV.



Thalmic Labs had impressive displays right before CES. The company's Myo integration was introduced in November by TedCas. This allows surgeons to alter images from medical devices without touching the screen. Haute Technique shared the story of how it was able to allow Armin van Buuren, a Dutch DJ, to use the armband as a controller to control the stage lighting at his concerts. It will be interesting to see what people behind the gesture cameras have to come up with, given that companies are investing heavily in gesture control.
