Avanos Medical recalls that there are sixty accidents, 23 deaths, and 23 illnesses that were caused by the improper placement or accidental inserting of nasogastric feeding tube while using the CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System. Pneumothorax (collapsed lung) or pneumothorax, perforation (a gap or hole within the wall of a lung), pneumonia, and Pleural effusion (excess fluid between the lungs, chest cavity) are some of the injuries.
Avanos Medical has described a plan to supply users with new labels, which will confirm the correct placement of nasogastric and nasoenteric tubes prior to use.
Avanos was the second alert that was issued by the FDA in 2022 concerning the use of enteral nutrition tubes.
