Avanos Medical (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has announced that it will be recalling Cortrak*2's enteral access system. The recall was announced because of injuries to patients and deaths caused by misplaced nasoenteric/nasoga tubes. The recall currently comprises 629 devices distributed across the United States.
Avanos selling the Cortrak*2 Endural Access System has been for the on-screen images of patients' stomachs and small bowels to assist in the placement medical feeding tubes. However, patients may be harmed to their vocal cords or lungs if the tube is not properly inserted. According to the Avanos Medical recall announcement it has been reported that there were 60 injuries and 23 deaths in patients in 2015 due to the misplacement of nasogastric feeding tubes while using the CORTRAK* 2 Enteral Access System.
