Are you looking to master a Minecraft horse? These robust block-based horses are perfect for long distances and are easy to handle. But first, you'll have to to find one. Minecraft horses can be found in a variety of ways based on the biome you're in (opens in a new window) So you'll only find them in certain locations.

Minecraft horse spawn: where to find them



Minecraft horses spawn in either the Plains or Savannah biomes and are found in groups of between two and six. They are non-aggressive mobs, meaning they don't attack you, but you can kill and attack them for a small amount of XP and some leather (you are the monster).



There are 35 different types of horses, however the differences are only superficial. These varieties are derived from the fact that the seven different colors and five different marking styles can be mixed and matched, providing a lot of variety between each kind of horse.



How to craft a saddle



Before you can begin training horses, you'll need a saddle. Without one, you won't be able to ride or transport tamed horses anywhere, which makes it a bit pointless. You can't create them, so you'll need to use one of these methods.



The first option is through chests which you can find in normal dungeons or in the Nether Fortress. Saddles aren't astoundingly rare items therefore, you'll likely find one and add it to your inventory as soon as possible.



You can also catch a saddle when fishing, which is strange. Hopefully, someone was able to throw it into the sea in a fit of rage, and you haven't just snagged it off the back of a horse that drowned. It's a bit grim to think about honestly.



If you spot horses in the correct biome, you just need to approach it to begin to tame it. Remove any weapons so you don't strike it accidentally.



After you're close enough, you need to climb onto the horse and mount it, but you might be bucked off a few times. To climb on, you'll either have to right-click the horse or hover over it and press the 'Mount' button depending on whether or not you're playing the Java Edition or not. The saddle isn't required for this stage, but you'll need it later on.

How to breed Minecraft horses



You will require two Golden Apples, or two Enchanted Golden Apples in order to breed horses. If you are familiar with how breeding works in real-life, you will not be surprised to discover that you also require two horses.



Both horses need to be tamed and controlled by following the steps above. You'll have to feed each horse a portion of the food pairings above while keeping them close together. The horses will soon be able to see each other and place red love hearts on their heads. The hearts will soon disappear and a new horse will appear in its place.
