Minecraft sales have officially reached 200 million, with 126 million people playing the game monthly. Microsoft has released the most recent figures of sales, right as Mojang Studios celebrates eleven years since the first Minecraft beta build was released.
Microsoft also noticed a significant increase in Minecraft usage during this epidemic. Minecraft saw an increase of 25 percent in new players in the last month, and a 40 percent spike in multiplayer sessions.
Minecraft sales had previously topped 100 million back in 2016 and the game hasn't shown any sign of slowing down. An increase in interest from YouTubers and nostalgia-driven gaming saw Minecraft remain the king of YouTube viewership stats last year.
Microsoft bought Minecraft maker Mojang six years ago for $2.5 Billion. At that time, the company sold more than 50,000,000 copies on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Microsoft has made a smart purchase. The game's incredible growth in sales and the game's momentum have kept players coming back for decades.
Minecraft started off life as a project for a bedroom, distributed initially as an Java applet on a website forum. The game was soon embraced by thousands of players who fell in the game's concept that allowed players to create and build structures out of blocks. It has created a huge community that creates replica objects and YouTube instructions on how to play Minecraft that are shared regularly with millions of users.
